Chairman Zheng Bijian met with Mr. Mark Brzezinski, Former U.S. Ambassador to Sweden

Chairman Zheng Bijian met with Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, son of former U.S. National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski, at CIIDS on November 14, 2017. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-U.S. relations and other issues of common interest.

At the meeting, Chairman Zheng said, as an internationally renowned strategist, your father, Dr. Brzezinski devoted himself to the promotion of friendship and cooperation between China and the U.S. and made remarkable contribution to the development of Sino-U.S. relations. Dr. Brzezinski was an old friend of the Chinese people. He was also an old friend of mine with whom I met on a regular basis over the years and had in-depth exchanges on Sino-U.S. relations, the international situation and regional issues. His encyclopedic knowledge and keen insights deeply impressed me. I am very much saddened by his passing.

Mr. Mark Brzezinski said that Chairman Zheng is a strategist with global vision, for whom my father had great respect. The doctrine of the Peaceful Rise of China that Chairman Zheng proposed has been highly significant to the development of Sino-U.S. relations and will remain so for many years to come. My visit to CIIDS today was in fact at the suggestion of my father, who told me to seek advice from you on Sino-U.S. relations and other international issues. It is my hope that I will carry on the unfinished life-work of my father under your wise guidance and do my due share to the development of Sino-U.S. relations.
