Xinhua News Agency, June 1, New York (by Yang Shilong)– Understanding China, a book series depicting the country’s historic changes in recent decades to international readers, made its debut at the Book Expo America (BEA) at the Javits Convention Center in New York on June 1. The international promotion and a signing ceremony for the joint publication of the book series were also held at the expo.
The English edition of the elected books from the first volume of the Understanding China series was published earlier this year. This was the first time that the books were being introduced and promoted in the U.S. The signing ceremony was hosted by China International Publishing Group (CIPG), CIIDS, and Berggruen Institute (21st Century Council), and co-hosted by Foreign Languages Press (FLP).
Hu Kaimin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of FLP, said the books will provide a wealth of information and profound insights for the international community to understand the Chinese culture and the choice of the Chinese, and adapt to the development of China. He said he was confident that the series would be accepted, loved and valued by more American readers.
Jointly planned and complied by CIPG and CIIDS, the series is a collection of books written by reputable Chinese and international scholars on the theme of “understanding China.” It was published worldwide by FLP in Chinese and English. Over 20 books have been published so far in both Chinese and English.
