Chairman Zheng Bijian met with H.E. Dr. N. Hassan Wirajuda, Former Foreign Minister of Indonesia

On July 3rd, 2023, Founding Chairman Zheng Bijian met with H.E. Dr. N. Hassan Wirajuda, former Foreign Minister of Indonesia at CIIDS. The two sides exchanged views on the China-Indonesia relations among other international and regional issues of shared interest.

“It was a pleasure to meet my old friend Dr. Hassan Wirajuda again after a lapse of almost ten years,”reminisced Founding Chairman Zheng Bijian, noting, “I headed a Chinese delegation to Indonesia in 2014. During our meeting with the then Indonesian President H.E. Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, I proposed that China and Indonesia seize on the opportunity to strive to build convergences of interests and communities of shared interests across various areas and at various levels so as to achieve a shared peaceful rise for both countries. Over the past decade, as we look back, the bilateral cooperation between China and Indonesia has achieved a leap-forward development and has ushered in a new historic period, with both countries committed to building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future. I am deeply heartened by the strides we have made in developing our bilateral ties.” Founding Chairman Zheng Bijian also briefed Dr. Hassan Wirajuda on the Understanding China Conference, hoping the latter would sustain his attention to and pariticipation in the Conference. 

Dr. Hassan Wirajuda said that it too was a pleasure to meet with Mr. Zheng Bijian again. China has made great strides in its path to modernization, and is exerting an ever bigger influence on the world stage. I, among many other regional observers, have long been following, with keen interest, the new progress of China’s peaceful rise. I am currently involved in thinktank research, and is looking forward to strengthening academic exchanges and research cooperation with CIIDS, as well as to attending the Understanding China Conference in the near future.
